This subcommittee brings together those interested in development cooperation. The Subcommittee for Development Cooperation informs the Student Union members and increases their awareness of development cooperation, and also organizes the Development Cooperation Week, theme days, movie nights and Fair Trade tastings.
In addition, the subcommittee is responsible for supporting and following the Student Union’s own development project in Rajasthan, India. The project began in March 2010 in cooperation with Bal Rashmi Society, an Indian civic organization. Its purpose is to encourage the schooling of children, to raise the women’s awareness of their own rights, and to empower the entire village with the help of different activities.
Students can help fund the project by buying development cooperation lunches in Cafeteria Ilokivi or by adding a voluntary development cooperation fee to the total sum whenever they pay their membership fee to the Student Union. The subcommittee also sponsors a children’s home in Russian Karelia. The subcommittee welcomes all students who are interested in working in a multicultural environment for a better, more equal world!
In 2016 the chairperson of the Subcommittee for Development Cooperation is Ira Vainikainen (ira.j.j.vainikainen(a)student.jyu.fi )
