Application period for SYL’s climate network is open!
Do you care about climate change? Do you have a burning desire to contribute your competence to the world and change it? Would you like to help SYL and the student unions develop their climate lobbying and climate skills?
We’re looking for imaginative and motivated members for the National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL) climate network. SYL represents 14 member organisations and more than 150,000 university students. The climate network is a pioneer in the student movement’s climate work.
The climate network is a group of student union actors and students that participates in SYL’s climate advocacy and develops climate work in SYL and the student unions. If necessary, the climate network represents SYL at various events and publishes position papers and blog posts.
We don’t expect you to be a professional – you just need to be motivated and eager to learn about sustainable development and climate change. We expect the members of the climate network to be committed to what they do. Climate network members are also expected to actively participate in meetings during their term of office.
The term begins in August 2026 and ends in July 2027. A maximum of 15 members will be elected to the climate network, some of whom will be continuing members. The climate network meets about once a month and mainly works remotely.
We are also seeking a person to lead the climate network’s activities and chair its meetings. The chair reports to the SYL board.
How to apply?
Send your motivation letter to JYY’s Specialist in International Affairs Emilia Lakka via email to emilia.lakka@jyy.fi by April 30. Please title your email “Hakemus ilmastoverkoston jäseneksi”. All applications will be acknowledged as received. Note: The application period has been continued until May 4th at 11.59pm.
In the motivation letter, you can describe your interest and motivation in becoming a member of the climate network, what you would like to learn during your term and how you could keep in contact with JYY’s sustainability actors.
Additionally, we hope you will indicate if you are interested in chairing the climate network. Any long-term obstacles to attending meetings (e.g. studies abroad) should also be mentioned.
JYY will nominate 1-3 candidates, and the selection of nominees will be made at JYY’s board meeting on May 7. The final selection will be made by SYL.
SYL emphasizes diversity and equal opportunities in its activities and welcomes applicants from different backgrounds and of different genders. The selection process will take into account the applicants’ motivation, experience, and the fact that the climate network must include representatives from different student unions.
