This award was established to recognise outstanding individual contributions towards the lives of international students at the University of Jyväskylä. It is designed to encourage international students to be active and gain experience through participation in campus life.
An outstanding international student does his or her bit in the student community, bringing out new ideas and suggestions for improvement, which bring about something good and improve the community spirit among students. They can be a tireless supporter of others, an enthusiastic participant in organizations or care deeply about the welfare of their fellow students, always busy with ideas. Whatever this model international student does, they give it all they have. With their example they encourage other students to also contribute something to benefit the student community and with their positive attitude maintain a good atmosphere that encourages different student groups to better cooperate in creating a better, more international study environment.

The aim of the competition is to support the international activities of subject associations and to motivate them to take international affairs better into consideration.
An outstanding subject association takes the needs of international students into consideration in everything it does, including advocacy. It guarantees its Finnish members both an opportunity to develop their international skills and to get to know international students. An outstanding subject association communicates systematically also in other language(s) than Finnish and directs a part of its communication particularly to the international students. International students can freely participate in the events organized by the subject association. The community, enriched by the active participation of international students, has an open and welcoming atmosphere.
