WHAT IS MINNAN MATKA?

Vappu and Minna’s Journey are back! 

Minna’s Journey is an interdisciplinary event appro, where you collect stamps in your pass by visiting events made by student organizations. The journey culminates on May 1 at the Harju picnic, where participants can pick up a fantastic Minnan matka overalls patch.

The goal of Minnan matka is to bring together university students regardless of their field of study or educational institution and to facilitate interdisciplinary event collaboration. Minnan matka is organized by JYY and JAMKO in collaboration with several other organizations that organize student events.

Appro pass

Passes for Minna’s trip can be picked up at the Vappu KickStart event on April 1, at the weekly Sunday sauna events organized by JYY and K.I.U.A.S. ry, as well as at the JAMKO office and the JYY service desk during their regular business hours starting April 2.

The aim of this event is to enjoy the outdoors, hike a little (around 4 km in total) from Vehkahalli to the Haukanniemi campfire place, to gather around a campfire to grill, eat munkkis, and drink sima. We will be offering munkki and sima. Everyone can optionally bring their own food to grill by the campfire. There will also be a small surprise activity at the location. Overalls can also be worn if desired. The tickets will be sold on Kide app.

Summer is right around the corner and now is a great time to find your dancing shoes from storage and head to Teerenpeli to experience some traditional Finnish dance hall atmosphere with TARMO’s and JASTO’s Kevättanssit!

On wednesday 8.4. traditional TARMO’s kevättanssiaiset heads to the centre of Jyväskylä more relaxed than before. Doors to Teerenpeli will open at 18:00 and you can dance till the last call comes. If dancing is not your thing. Don’t worry! There’s also some additional programs where everyone can participate. And of course the main part of the event is to enjoy good company and great live music

It’s time to warm up your voices for the upcoming Vappu celebrations, as the Vapun Karaokeappro will take over the spring streets of Jyväskylä for the second time on 9.4.2026. Whether you’re a beginner or a karaokemaster, come along and sing your favorite songs! 🎙️

During this appro, you can collect stamps in your appro pass in two different ways. Stamps are earned either by performing songs or by purchasing drinks. If performing feels nerve-racking, don’t worry: you don’t have to take the stage alone. Songs can also be performed together with friends, and everyone participating in the singing receives a stamp. So come sing along or simply enjoy some amazing karaoke performances.

Does love win in the end? I don’t know, but we’ll be playing some ruusu regardless! ARSe is taking part in the Minnan matka Vappu appro organized by JYY and JAMKO with its own event on Friday, April 10!

The Ruusuappro will be an interdisciplinary appro-eventwhere students of Jyväskylä get to experience and soak up the atmosphere of Jyväskylän akateeminen ruususeura!
The event starts at kirkkopuisto, after which participants go around ruusu-themed checkpoints across the city center and campus area. At the checkpoints, you complete light-hearted ruusu-related tasks, after which, during which, or even before which, participants may choose to try the famed ruusu-drinking game. Let’s not give away too much.
What you need to bring: your own mug, overalls, (your own drinks, the event is BYOB) and of course a mood to celebrate the coming spring😊
Membership of JYY or JAMKO is required to take part in the event.

What is JyväSpeksi?

JyväSpeksi is an interdisciplinary student theater that combines improvisation, live music and dancing. The audience participates in making each performance unique by shouting ‘Omstart’, when the actors replay the scene again in a different way. Every performance is inevitably different! JyväSpeksi unites the entire academic community, with the goal of including everyone interested in Speksi, regardless of their field of study. We have 100 contributors from various associations, guilds and departmental organizations, and the number continues to grow every year.

Kvääriklubs are rainbow-themed party nights with a variety of entertainment at Teerenpeli in Jyväskylä.

This spring’s Kvääriklubi will celebrate the evening in the spirit of old-school cabaret. The lineup includes bingo, performances, DJ music, and a costume contest.

Throughout the evening, the club’s guests will be entertained by cabaret sensation and burlesque artist Dorian Dietrich, visiting from the US, as well as the electrifyin drag artist Kelly Babah.

The bingo and the entire evening will be hosted by local drag sensation Lettu.

We all know that “vabu”(vappu) doesn’t “lobu”(end), but what else doesn’t “lobu” either? Prepare a presentation on this topic and come share it at Alakulttuuritalo Kramsu on April 20, starting at 5:30 p.m. The topic is open to interpretation, and the presentation should be no longer than about 10 minutes. You’re also welcome to just come and watch. This is a casual event to learn more, have a laugh, and meet new people. So come celebrate the fact that May Day doesn’t end!

We’ll kick off the evening with a shared pea soup at 6 PM, after which the actual Keittotunti begins. 🥣

The idea is simple: one shot per minute for an hour — that’s a total of 60 shots per participant!
After the one-hour session, the evening continues at Ilokivi Venue until 11 PM, and from there, those who wish can continue wherever the night takes them.
So put on your overalls, bring your own shot glass, and your preferred drinks! However, we do not recommend beverages stronger than 5.5% ❗ The session can also be completed alcohol-free! <3
A ticket to the session costs €3, which includes pea soup and entry to the event. ❤️‍🔥

The event follows safer space principles. If you experience or witness any harassment, please contact the event’s equality officer, who will be introduced at the beginning.

This student band, made up of members from Tosine, has been blowing the roof off in student parties and has performed not only at annual celebrations and sillis events, but also at Yläkaupungin Yö and other events around Jyväskylä. German language students’ subject association Sturm und Drang (SuD) is inviting the members of JYY and JAMKO to Lounaispuisto to play the traditional German outdoor game, Flunkyball. Bring enough beverages of choice (one 0,33 l drink / round) and your preferred snacks. You can come with your friends or alone – everyone is welcome to play flunkyball!

The May Day dance party at Ilokivi will feature live music and a possible tutorial on how to dance to traditional dance music genres. 30.4. Putting the Cap on Minna

This year, on May Day Eve—Tuesday, April 30—we will finally cap the Minna Canth statue, located in Kirkkopuisto. As usual, we’ll get to hear the wonderful music of the University of Jyväskylä Wind Orchestra, Puhkupillit, and May Day speeches from the chair of the JYY Board and the chair of the JAMKO Board. There is no entry fee at the capping of Minna Canth.

On May Day, Wednesday, May 1, it’s time to relax. To make that happen JYY and JAMKO are having a group picnic for students at Harju from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM. All students from the universities are warmly welcome to join!

Just like last year, music will be playing from the JYY tent, and we’ll be interviewing students. The exact schedule will be published closer to the picnic! Entry to the picnic is free.

The area reserved for the picnic is the slope leading from the Harju stairs (Nero stairs) toward the Normaalikoulu. We will publish a map of the area closer to the event.

Did you know that the cap emblem on your graduation cap is a traditional symbol of admission to the University of Helsinki? But don’t worry! All student unions now have their own cap emblem, so as a JYY member, you can replace it with JYY’s own emblem. You can purchase the cap emblem from JYY’s service desk at Ilokivi for eight euros.
