Each year, national student organizations select elected representatives to advocate for and advance students’ interests. JYY is a member of the Finnish Student Sports Federation (OLL) and participates in influencing both the organization’s policies and its elected representatives through the annual General Assembly. The Student Union can also nominate its own candidates.
This autumn, the JYY Representative Council will decide on the nomination of the Student Union’s candidates for OLL’s board in its 23.10 meeting, based on a proposal by the Executive Board. The Executive Board may propose candidates for both board member and chairperson positions. The final elections for these positions will take place at the federations’ General Assembly in November.
The Executive Board will make its proposal in its meeting on 9.10. The Board requests that interested candidates submit a free-form motivation letter and a CV to the Chair of the JYY Executive Board by email at venla.suosalo@jyy.fi. Applications will be accepted between 8.9-28.9.
The application materials should clearly express the applicant’s suitability and motivation for the position, as well as any key campaign themes the candidate plans to highlight if nominated. The materials must also state whether the applicant is seeking nomination as a board member, chairperson, or both, and whether they are interested in the vice-chairperson position.
It is also possible to express candidacy during the October meeting of the Representative Council. However, candidates who declare their interest at the meeting will not be included in the Board’s proposal, as the proposal will have already been finalized. A valid nomination at the meeting requires that a voting member of the Representative Council formally proposes the candidate.
Candidates approved by the Representative Council are eligible to receive financial support €300 for chairperson candidates and €150 for board member candidatesThis financial support is intended to cover actual campaign-related expenses.
