RepCo Elections 2025

The election of the Representative Council (RepCo) of the Student Union of the University of Jyväskylä (JYY) for the years 2026–2027 will be held on October 30–31 and November 3–6. Every member of the Student Union who is enrolled at the university has the right to vote in the RepCo elections.

What RepCo?

JYY always strives for openness and democracy. Every other year students elect the Representative Council by a secret ballot where any student can stand as a candidate.

The Representative Council is the Parliament of the Student Union and, as such, decides on the most important issues concerning the Union and its members. The Council is comprised of 39 representatives.

Among other things, RepCo has power over the rules, budgets, financial statements, loans and building projects of the Student Union. RepCo also appoints the Board of Executives, its chair and the key staff of the Student Union, such as its Secretary General and Editor-in-Chief. RepCo assembles for a session approximately once a month and all its meetings are open for all students.

The current Representative Council was elected in the RepCo elections in autumn 2023. The 2023 elections still used the old election method, which is why 41 representatives were elected instead of 39. You can find the number of seats for the current RepCo groups and other information here.

Head to the voting page!

Voting will take place between October 30–31 and November 3–6 in the electronic Vakka system, which can be accessed using your personal university username and password. The system will be accessible on all voting days between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., except on the last voting day, November 6, when access will be available between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. The service allows you to change your vote during the voting period. Although voting is open seemingly in two rounds, there is no advance voting in the election. The voting is continuous, but ballot boxes will be closed for the weekend of November 1–2.

If you are unable to vote even though you are eligible to do so, please contact JYY’s member services and organization specialist (petro.pitkanen@jyy.fi) or the chair of the Central Election Committee (edarivaalit@jyy.fi).

Voting is secure and confidential – votes cannot be traced back to individuals. This means that there won’t be a guy behind the screen checking who you voted for in the system.
