Trainee-program advocated for by JYY is advancing in the city of Jyväskylä

The Student Union of the University of Jyväskylä (JYY) started advocacy work for a better traineeship system in the spring of 2025. The goal was for the city of Jyväskylä to start using a Trainee-program that standardizes the city’s traineeship practices and have the city’s available traineeships visible in one location.

The new traineeship model aims to make the city’s traineeship opportunities more visible and accessible to students. Now JYY is aiming to participate in the practical planning of the program to ensure that studentsviews are taken into account.

More about the Trainee-program

The traineeships offered by the city of Jyväskylä have previously not been all visible in any one place. For students this has meant that they have had to ask around for them. This could be partly explained by the fact that these traineeships and their recruitment processes have been managed by different units in the city organization.

Now, the Trainee-program aims to collect the city’s traineeships to be visible in a common location and to standardize recruitment practices. Simultaneously, the goal is to form a yearly calendar, based on which units can better plan which trainees are recruited into which positions. This way students can also expect traineeship recruitments to start at a certain time each year.
