The Student Union of the University of Jyväskylä (JYY) is looking for a new organizer for the indoor festival Jyrock starting from 2026.
JYY’s Council of Reprensentatives decided in its meeting on February 22nd 2024 that JYY will not organize Jyrock after the year 2025. In the meeting, the Council also decided to authorize the Student Union’s board and Executive Director to find a new organizer for Jyrock.
JYY will still organize Jyrock in 2024 and 2025, which is the 40th anniversary of the festival.
“Organizing Jyrock as a JYY event has had economic challenges, which is why options for the future have been charted”, says JYY’s Executive Director Teemu Vasama.
“Jyrock will be organized as a JYY event two more times and we are also committed to supporting the new organizer so that Jyrock can continue in the future. By making this decision well in advance we want to ensure that the transition can be done in a controlled way”, Vasama continues.
The Chair of JYY’s board Akseli Immonen emphasizes that JYY’s event sector will continue to be active.
“JYY is open to new, versatile culture events and event suggestions, and we always want to develop our student events”, Immonen says.
