JYY’s candidate Heli Ylikoski has been elected as a member of the board of the National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL) for 2025. The election took place in SYL’s general assembly at the Aalto-university on November 15-16.
Ylikoski is currently working as a board member of JYY, responsible for academic affairs. Ylikoski is a sixth-year student at the University of Jyväskylä in the Cultures and communities in a changing world -program.
“I’m excited and extremely grateful for this honor! Four years ago when I started on the board of Nefa, I never could have imagine that I would end up this far. In the beginning of the year at JYY we talked about how a year as JYY’s academic affairs responsible was an intensive course for high level advocacy work, and it indeed has been. So it is really exciting to get to experience the same at SYL”, Ylikoski says.
“In the next years, there will be a lot of things happening that require the attention of SYL and the whole student movement. So I’m excited about the group we have at SYL next year!”, she continues.
The general assembly elected Anselmi Auramo from the LUT-university as the president of SYL for 2025. In addition to Ylikoski, the following members were elected to the board: Tilda Lassila (HYY), Samuli Leppämäki (Kokoomusopiskelijat), Mirka Nieminen (ISYY), Maria Saita (VYY) and Mantė Žygelytė (AYY).
SYL is a national student organisation that represents about 140 000 students in Finland. Student unions are its members. In the general assembly, delegations from the student unions elected the board and decided on SYL’s plans for next year.
