JYY’s New Substitute Specialist in International Affairs is Emilia Lakka

Emilia Lakka has been selected as the substitute for JYY’s International Affairs Specialist. The substitute position will last until November 13, 2026.

Previously, Lakka served as a member of JYY’s board in 2016, responsible for international affairs and social policy, and as a tutor for international students. She is currently completing her doctoral dissertation in general history, specializing in issues related to labor migration and corporate responsibility.

“It’s fantastic to continue working in the field of advocating for international students! The international sector engages in diverse development work at the university, and I am excited to contribute to it during my time as a substitute,” Lakka says.

JYY’s Executive Director Teemu Vasama also expressed his delight at Lakka’s selection.

“Our university community is internationalizing rapidly, and there is much work to be done in the coming years. I am truly glad to have Emilia’s extensive experience and broad expertise back on JYY’s team!” Vasama says.

The International Affairs Specialist at JYY coordinates the student union’s international activities and advocacy for international students, oversees fundraising for development cooperation, and supports the student union’s sustainability efforts. The specialist is also part of the university’s international services, organizing the reception and tutoring of international students.
