The percentage of voters in JYY Council of Representatives election was 9 percentage points higher than in two past elections. In 2013 20,6 % and in 2015 20,4 % of electors voted whereas in 2017 the final percentage of voters was 28,96 %. This year the elections were arranged as electronic election via internet for the very first time in JYY’s history. Members of Student Union elected a new Council of Representatives for the term of 2018-2019.
“I’m really pleased with the increased voting activity as well as with the campaign efforts of all alliances. I would like to thank once more the whole Election committee and all alliances for great elections”, says the Chair of the Election committee Emmi Ahola.
P&D retained its position as the biggest council group with 11 seats. Alvarin unioni (The Union of Alvar) reached 8 seats and JYYn vihreät opiskelijat (The Green Students of JYY) 7 seats.
The 3 candidates with the biggest amounts of votes were Sami Kääriäinen of Oikeat opiskelijat (Right Students) with 71 votes, Bella Forsgrén of JYYn vihreät opiskelijat (The Green Students of JYY) with 64 votes and Joel Saukonoja of Jyväskylän keskustaopiskelijat (Centre Students of Jyväskylä) with 61 votes.
The members of newly elected Council will have their first meeting in December 7, 2017.
