The turnout of JYY’s Representatives’ Council election decreased from the previous election in 2021 by about five percentage points. In the electronic election, 41 members of the Representatives’ Council were elected for the term 2024-2025.
A total of 2680 members voted in the election. The total number of eligible voters was 13089 and the voter turnout was 20,48%. In the previous election in 2021, voter turnout was 25,98%.
The Green Left of the University of Jyväskylä became the biggest council group with 14 seats, increasing their total by 6 seats. The second biggest council group was PD (12) and the third the Union of Alvar (7).
“I want to thank all electoral alliances for good campaigning and congratulate all elected members of the Representatives’ Council. For many, standing as a candidate in the Representatives’ Council election is a first step in advocacy and often takes great courage. Thank you to all who had the courage to do so”, says the Chair of the Central Election Committee Akseli Immonen.
“At the same time, I want to express my and the election committee’s disappointment in the decrease in voter turnout. A decrease of more than five percentage points from the last elections is alarming and the reasons for this will be examined in more detail. Now, however, is the time for well deserved rest after the election”, Immonen continues.
The biggest vote-getters in the election were Siiri Kettunen of the Union of Alvar (109 votes), Inka Kauppinen of PD (96) and Izabella Dhima of The Green Left of the University of Jyväskylä (71).
