Hunger Day is the annual fundraising campaing arranged by the Finnish Red Cross. Also Student Union of the University of Jyväskylä (JYY) is participating in the fundraising campaign. Donations will be used for the Finnish Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund which helps victims of natural disasters and conflicts around the world.
Right now, the Hunger Day funds are needed especially at the Finnish Red Cross hospital in Bangladesh, where nearly a million people have escaped from Myanmar because of violence. Collections funds are unbound and used where help is needed the most.
The Red Cross helps people in need all over the world, including those in Finland. In Finland, the Hunger Day donations are used for example to help fire victims and to maintain emergency preparedness for accidents.
