The Student Union of the University of Jyväskylä has organized a Development Cooperation week and an Environmental week annually, every October. In 2020 these two theme weeks are combined and will form the Sustainable Development theme weeks. This year also the FORTHEM network’s Climate Change and Environment in the EU international project is organized in conjunction with the Sustainable Development weeks. JYY is now looking for a coordinator for the Sustainable Development theme weeks organized in October 2020.
The Climate Change and Environment in the EU is a short-term mobility project within the FORTHEM network and it is an opportunity for students to network internationally while learning about the topic of the week. There will be 35 students participating in the 5-days-long project from seven different universities across Europe. FORTHEM participants will participate to the events of the first week of the Sustainable Development weeks in the late afternoon but will have also an own track of programs in the early afternoons.
As a coordinator you will recruit a group of volunteers and together with them and JYY’s Environmental and Development cooperation sectors you plan and organize a set of events among the themes of sustainable development, climate change and environmental issues. Your tasks also include managing the volunteers, communication and a small-scale reporting of the project. Working as a coordinator requires innovativeness and independent work manner.

The position offers and excellent opportunity to gather work experience. While working, you will also increase your network, internationalize and learn more about JYY. A reward of 600 euros is paid for the coordinator.
Essentials
- Being interested in sustainable development and climate change
- Have good project management skills
- Fluency in English, understanding Finnish and ability to produce written text in Finnish
Desirables
- Experience in organizing events, project work, communication and/or managing groups
- Familiarity with topics related to sustainable development
The coordinator’s work starts in the spring with brainstorming and planning the events and ends after the theme weeks with writing up a report. The training for the position will take place immediately after the recruitment process, during March. Most of the work will take place in October during the theme weeks but the coordinator is required to commit to this task starting from the spring.
