Yes, the students orienteering competition Amazing Race Jyväskylä will also take place in 2024! This year the race is confirmed for Friday 26.4.

As usual, there will be three starts: at 11:00 am, 11:30 am and 12:00 pm. The starting point is Ceremony Square (Seremonia-aukio) on the Seminaarinmäki! We’ve sent an infoletter to all team captains.

And don’t worry – your feedback is heard! This year we are going back to the “old school” model of paper clues.

Two race categories:
HARD CORE = More checkpoints, so less time to complete the race.
SUNDAY WALK = Fewer checkpoints, so longer time to complete the race.

In both categories there will be prizes for the top three teams, as well as prizes for the atmosphere!

Tickets will be on sale for 200 teams: 100 for Hard Core and 100 for the Sunday Walk. Teams are 4-person in size and teams must be students of legal age. When purchasing tickets, the team captain, who is the contact person, and the team name will be provided at the time of ticket purchase.

Otherwise, we will go as usual from checkpoint to checkpoint in good sporting spirit around Jyväskylä! Are you ready?

• Please arrive one hour (1 h) before your start time at the starting area, Seremonia Square.
• The team envelope can be claimed by any member of the team, as long as you have your team name and your own name. This will ensure that the envelope goes to the right team.
• The envelope must not be opened until it is time for your own departure!

• Sunday Walkers will complete 6 checkpoints and Hard Core teams will complete 8 checkpoints.
• The time limit to complete the race is 6 hours regardless of the start time. Checkpoints closes at 6 pm.
• Once a checkpoint is completed, the team will receive a stamp/mark of the checkpoint on the team performance pass.
• A team will receive a time penalty of 15 minutes for failing to complete a checkpoint.
• Team must be for 5 minutes at the checkpoint, even if the team only wants to take the time penalty (15 minutes).
• Once a checkpoint has been completed, the checkpoint organizer will display a cue for the next checkpoint. It’s worth taking a photo!
• When all the checkpoints have been marked as completed on the pass, the team heads to the finish area, i.e. the lobby of the Ilokivi Student House.
• The team can use Linkki buses, walk, run or use the public electric scooters on their own expence.
• The team may not use other motorised vehicles, taxis or bicycles.
• No additional tips will be given this year! So we do not prohibit the use of smart devices to find out the clues.

• All team members must be students and of legal age. The educational institution does not matter.
• Teams must have 4 members, as the tracks are designed for 4 people. If one of the team members falls ill on the morning of the race, we can grant an exemption to participate. This must be reported at the time of registration.

The award ceremony will take place at 6:30 pm in front of the Student House Ilokivi.

The event will follow JYY’s safer space policy, which you can read here. By participating in the event, you agree to abide by them. The JYY’s trusted persons will be present at the event. You will recognise him or her by the JYY grey hoodie and equality pin. You can contact him or her at low threshold if you feel that the principles of the safer space have been violated.
