The student union JYY is looking for a coordinator to organize a climate change-themed Sustainable Development week.
Student Unions HYY, ISYY, JYY, LYY, OYY and TYY and the student unions’ umbrella organisation SYL have been granted FRAME, VOICE, REPORT! – EU-funding in order to implement a climate change-themed project. Do you want to do something concrete to mitigate climate change? Be our local coordinator to have an excellent opportunity to impact other students and make sure that adequate climate action will be put into motion.
As the coordinator, you are responsible for organizing the Sustainable Development week in JYY (events, booking facilities, inviting speakers). The coordinator recruits student volunteers and with the help of this volunteer group plans and carries out the theme week. We already have tentative event ideas and you can get more ideas from the other student unions’ local coordinators as well. SYL organizes four meetings for the local coordinators where coordinators receive guidance for the implementation of the project. As a coordinator, you also coordinate the volunteers and communicate actively of the events, for example via JYY’s communication channels.
On top of carrying out the theme week, an essential part of your duties is to report about the process (media tracking, event follow-up, descriptive reporting, financial reporting) in an agreed schedule. Instructions for the reporting and other coordinator tasks will be given in the coordinators’ meetings. The position is a good way to gather work experience.
Most of the work is in October or November during the theme week. The coordinator is supported not only by SYL and the other coordinators but also by the development cooperation sector of JYY and the volunteers of the theme week.
We require the candidate to:
- be interested in sustainable development and climate change
- have good project management skills
- attend the coordinator meetings in Helsinki (1 x 2 days and 3 x 1 day)
- have fluency in English
We also favor
- experience in project work
- experience in communications
- understanding Finnish language
After organizing the week and submitting the report, a reward of 870 euros is paid.
