JYY organizes a demonstration to demand more resources for mental health services

JYY is organizing a demonstration on Wednesday March 13th at 3pm to demand more resources for mental health services at the FSHS. The demonstration will take place at Puistokatu 1 (Aren square) and will expand towards Kauppakatu. In accordance with the principles of the students’ mental health day on March 13, we demand that the government invests more money in FSHS’s mental health services.

Students’ mental health issues have been increasing for too long. According to the KOTT-survey, which is organized every four years, a third of higher education students (over 100 000 people) suffer from anxiety and depression symptoms. These symptoms are proven to be more common within students than the rest of the adult population. This has resulted in an increased need for mental health services.

The resources of FSHS have not kept up with this increased need. Students do not get care quickly enough and waiting times have increased too much.

This mental health crisis and lack of resources must be taken seriously. As the student movement we demand that more money be invested in FSHS’s mental health services.

More info about the demonstration is given by the vice chair of JYY’s board, Jenni Suutari. We want to emphasize that the demonstration is not directed at FSHS’s staff or services, but instead, the lack of resources.
