JYY’s representatives council has verified the updated policy paper for 2022. The entire policy paper can be read here (in Finnish), and will also be published in English.
The policy paper is updated every two years and it outlines what kind of trusteeship work and policy work JYY does. In addition, the policy paper sets goals for this work.
In the updated policy paper, JYY sets goals relating to educational policy at the University of Jyväskylä, as well as domestic and international education policy, society, students’ well-being, equality, regional politics and sustainable development.
For example, JYY outlines the following:
- Contact teaching is the primary form of teaching. However, the university must offer remote courses and high quality online lecture materials to support independent studying and accessibility of studying.
- The possibility for selling student lunches as takeouts is maintained.
- Regional student loan forgiveness is not used.
- The university of Jyväskylä remains committed to its goal of being carbon neutral by 2030.
The policy paper was updated in close cooperation with JYY’s representatives council, board and specialists. The board members responsible for the process were Jenni Suutari, Liina Korkiamäki and Konsta Tarnanen.
“The student union’s policy positions are always based on the representatives council’s decision. The policy paper is a central document directing the board’s work. By influencing the policy paper, the representatives council can direct what issues the student union takes up and what our stances are on different issues. I want to thank everyone who has been involved in this successful process”, says the vice chair of JYY’s board Jenni Suutari.
