The prices of student bus tickets will be lowered in the beginning of the year 2019.
In 2018 The Student Union of the University of Jyväskylä (JYY) and the Student Union of JAMK University of Applied Sciences (JAMKO) produced a survey to find out the students’ views about public transportation. The results showed that the ticket prices are, at the moment, considered too expensive. In addition, especially season tickets have previously been considerably more expensive than in other major cities in Finland. This year JYY and JAMKO have actively worked to get the students’ voices heard in the decision-making process. The results of the survey were presented to City Council groups and the Public Transportation Committee.
On Monday November 26th The City Council of Jyväskylä decided to increase funding for public transportation with 215 800 euros. This will lower the prices of student tickets in the future. Hence, a student season ticket, for example, will cost 43 euros instead of the previous 51 euros.
JYY and JAMKO are happy to inform that the students’ concerns have been taken into account in the decision-making process. This is a major step towards a more student-friendly city.
