The most influential student event of the spring
All University and University of Applied Sciences students in Jyväskylä want to participate in making Jyväskylä the best city for students in Finland.
The student union of the University of Jyväskylä (JYY) offers a student viewpoint on how to develop the city of Jyväskylä. We have compiled different means on how to make Jyväskylä the best city for students in Finland for candidates, voters and future policymakers. If you want students’ voices still to be heard in Jyväskylä going forward, help us spread our message.
Wellbeing of students must be invested in now
• The municipality offers low threshold mental health services also to students.
• The municipality supports extensively the development of sport, culture and other avocation services and directs these services more towards students.
• The possibilities to get a summer job or an internship placement in Jyväskylä are increased.
Students must be part of the decision-making in Jyväskylä
• The know-how of students is acknowledged in the decision-making process of the city of Jyväskylä.
• Students must be involved in the decision-making process of the municipality from the preparation phase onward.

Vote in the Municipality Election – Get an Overall Patch!
The first 500 who have voted in the municipality elections will get an overall patch. The patch can be collected from JYY’s offices.
Vote in your overalls!
Put on your overalls and vote. Encourage other students to vote as well by posting a picture to social media – please notice that you cannot take pictures in the voting stations.
Information about the Municipality Election
In Municipality Election the members of the municipality councils all over Finland are elected. These councils hold the highest decision-making power in the municipalities.
In Jyväskylä 67 council members are elected to the municipality council in the municipality election. The members of council decide, among other things, budget and strategy of the municipality, in addition to significant projects and investments.
Voting in the Municipal Election
Who is entitled to vote?
You may vote in the municipality election if you are a citizen of Finland, another European Union member state, Iceland or Norway and you meet the following criteria:
You have turned 18 by election date (13th of June 2021)
You have municipality of residence in Finland by 23rd of April 2021.
- If you are a citizen of another country, you may vote in the municipality elections if:
You have turned 18 by election date (13th of June 2021) - You have had a municipality of residence in Finland continuously for two years by 23rd of April 2021.
- The Digital and Population Data Services Agency will send a notification card informing you of your right to vote by 20th of May 2021.

Advance voting
The advance voting of the municipal elections is 26.5-8.6.2021.
During the advance voting one can vote in any advance voting stations in Finland. Remember to bring your ID with you when voting advance.
Actual election date
The actual election date of the municipality election is the 13th of June 2021. The voting stations are open on the election date from 9 am to 8 pm.
If one does not vote in advance, they can vote on the actual election date. Notice! on the actual election date one can only vote in a voting station specifically designated for them. Remember to bring your ID with you.
You can check your designated voting station from the notification card sent by the Digital and Population Data Services Agency, informing about your right to vote.

COVID19 and voting
Follow these official guidelines when voting:
Use a facemask or a visor, if you do not have any obstructions for their use.
Keep at least 2 m of distance to others.
Use the hand sanitizer provided in the voting stations.
Follow the instructions given by the election officials.
