Admissions to all museums below are free with a student card from Tuesday to Friday (4.4-8.4):
The Finnish Handicraft Museum, the Jyväskylä Art Museum and the Museum of Central Finland are partnering up with JYY during JYY’s Wellness Week. Admission to each museum is free with a student card from 5th to 8th of April. Art and culture can strengthen the well-being of the mind in many ways, as well as support the regulation of emotions. Through museum exhibitions, you can learn to recognize your own feelings and practice emotional skills that are important for the well-being of the mind.
The Museum of Central Finland is walking in the footsteps of Central Finnish people and history. In the exhibition you can read a comic about the founding stages of Jyväskylä, feel the atmosphere of a smoke sauna, sports or rap-music and try out rock-painting with modern technology.
The changing exhibitions include Central Finnish motorbike culture called Youth on wheels. Another exhibit showcases Vappu Heiskanen’s life and arts, who grew up and lived in Jyväskylä.
The Jyväskylä Art Museum presents various aspects of video game art in an exhibition in cooperation with the University of Jyväskylä and Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences, Experience Points – the Art of Video Games. Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences’ game design students have also created a unique virtual reality experience for the exhibition, where visitors can experience the magical world with the help of VR glasses.
At the Art Museum, it is also possible to dive into the paradise-like landscapes of Petri Ala-Maunus in the exhibition La-La Land. The works have been visually inspired by 19th-century German and North American landscape painting as well as record cover art typical of metal music and New Age-inspired utopian illustrations. In addition, the Jyväskylä Artists’ Association’s Black and White exhibition is on display starting from 6.4.
Decades of hat fashion can be seen in the exhibition Modists – hats, accessories and professional secrets at the Finnish Handicraft Museum. The exhibition features tools, equipment and materials used by modists, as well as, of course, accessories and headwear, some from the nostalgic decades. You can also take a look at the professional secrets of modists through videos about making hats.
España a mano – Handicrafts from Spain showcases a selected collection of works from the best Spanish handicrafters. The exhibition includes works from ceramics, glass, metal and textiles and leather work. You can also travel in the history of handicrafts and take a look at different national outfits from around Finland.
