This is the last year we will be putting the cap on the statue of Uno Cygnaeus, located in Cygnaeus Park (Cygnaeuksen puisto) opposite the main library, on vappu eve Tuesday 30 April. As usual, we will hear music by the magnificent University of Jyväskylä Orchestra’s Puhkupillit and a vappu speeches from the Chairperson of the JYY’s Board and the Chairperson of the JAMKO’s Board. There is no admission fee.

SCHEDULE

5 pm – You can start arriving at the park
5.15 pm – 1st set of the orchestra
5.30 pm – Speech by the Chairperson of the JYY’s Board
5.40 pm – Speech by the President of the JAMKO’s Board
5.50 pm – 2nd set of the orchestra
6 pm – Uno Cygnaeus receives his cap, which gives us permission to wear our caps
6 pm – Singing Gaudeamus Igitur together

After the programme, we will go together to the Mattilanniemi beach (Mattilanniemen uimaranta) to watch the teekkarikaste, which will start at 7 pm. After the teekkarikaste, a picnic party LakitusAfter Party will be held in the Mattilanniemi Park (Mattilanniemen puisto).

PLEASE NOTE

– Park access routes must be kept clear throughout the event, as well as the pavements around the park.
– Participants may observe the cap ceremony of the grassed areas of the park.
– You may bring your own food and snacks, but there is no space for picnics.
– Remember to take your trash, empty cans and bottles to the trash bags provided in the park.
– There will be security officers in the park to monitor the paths and circulate in the public area to assist you in case of emergencies or disturbances. The security officers will also act as trusted persons at the event.
– The area is accessible, but we ask that people with reduced mobility position themselves at the edge of the pavements. The ground in the park may still be soft.
