In the last meeting of 2018, we’ll decide the chairperson and secretary for the next year. We’ll also discuss current issues such as the future of our cooperation with Aurora Borealis and the ongoing Fair Trade competition.

EXCELLENCE IN INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS

The year is coming to its end, which means the annual Excellence in International Affairs competition takes place once again. This year we have changed the submissions to Google Forms, so you can just easily enter the contest by answering a few questions. There are two different categories: The Outstanding Association Award and the Outstanding Student Award. Winners will be rewarded.

COMMUNITY RAP EVENT

The Building Bridges project wraps up its autumn shenanigans in the Community Rap Event in Jyväskylän Veturitallit on December 12th. Come and see incredible hip hop and performances co-produced by Jyväskylä youth hiphop artists SoulValpio, Joniveli, and Soroush Seyedi. There will also be an OPEN MIC session, so take this amazing opportunity to showcase your skills in rap, song, or spoken word, in front of talented artists. All this PLUS henna tattoo art, Middle Eastern fusion food, co-produced short films, and graffiti displays by Janne Juhani Julma for FREE. Welcome all!

RUAMJAI & CANTINOVUM: CHRISTMAS CONCERT

Choirs Ruamjai and Cantinovum join forces this year and organize two Christmas concerts in their home town Jyväskylä. We’ll get to enjoy Christmas classics and new carols from both choirs and one big joint choir. Choir leaders Kirsi Kaunismäki-Suhonen and Rita Varonen. Mysterious man pays a visit to house of Old maid Miss Todd and her housemaid Laeticia. In less than no time money starts to disappear at the neighbourhood. But who is the thief? Miniature opera by Gian Carlo Menotti The Old Maid and the Thief tells comediac story of hopelessness and passion. Talented young students of Finnish Music Campus will get to show their skills in this diversified production. The opera is executed by students from numerous areas of study: media, beauty and clothing students from Gradia vocational school, dance from Gradia basic education of arts and music students from JAMK and JYU. Multiartistic and theatrical reading of the script is directed by Kirsi Sulonen and choreographed by Elina Wuethrich. Musical conductor and trainer is Eliisa Suni. The opera will be sung in English. Partial subtitles in Finnish.

VOICE CHOIR’S CHRISTMAS CONCERT

This concert is all about Christmas music from traditional carols and new Finnish songs to American Christmas gospel. This year we also have a visiting soloist Sani, who you may know from Vain elämää tv-show. Voice is accompanied by Solitary Company band and the choir leader is Tarja Erkkilä. Delivering an artful love letter to the women who raised him, Cuarón draws on his own childhood to create a vivid and emotional portrait of domestic strife and social hierarchy amidst political turmoil of the 1970s.
