Members of the Student Union JYY are eligible for holding a student card. A student card is in the same time a membership card of the student union and an official way to prove your student status. With a valid student card you are eligible for student-priced meals, student discounts in public transportation and for the services of the Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS).
As a member of JYY, you are entitled to a digital Slice student card, which you can use to redeem thousands of valuable student benefits across Finland by Finland’s largest student benefit service.
After becoming a member of JYY, you will receive your Slice activation credentials by email within 1–2 days. Use your credentials to log in to the Slice.fi app found in your app store and give the app all the permissions it requests.

Please note that you are able to order/download a student card only when you have a valid study right in the University of Jyväskylä which is
- from the beginning of January for exchange and degree students starting their studies in the spring semester
- from the beginning of August for degree students starting their studies in the autumn semester
- from the end of August for exchange students starting their studies in the end of August
Get a student card and get awesome discounts
You can start using your student card when you have joined the student union and membership data has been transferred to Slice (it takes a couple of days after your study right has come into effect).
You will be able to use Slice by downloading the Slice.fi -app from your app store. With Slice, you get to use all the student benefits directly through your phone. Slice is also an official certificate of your student status around Finland.

Changing your student card to a new phone
If you change phones, you must update your student card to a new phone.
Go to Slice.fi/resetoi and enter your email address that you have in Slice. After a while, you will receive an email with a link that you can click to soon receive new application activation keys to your email, which you can use to log in to Slice.fi application.
Physical student card and FrankApp
You can order a physical student card on Frank’s website at www.frank.fi/en/studentcard. The price for the card is 25€. You also get access to Frank’s digital FrankApp-student card. You can pick up the semester sticker for the card from the Central Office at Ilokivi.
Student discounts without a Slice student card
If you are an exchange student and have decided not to join the Student Union, you are still eligible for discounted meals at student restaurants and for discounted tickets on trains and long-distance buses.
In order to receive a student discount on your meal you need to present a meal subsidy card issued by Kela at the cashier. Please visit the Academic and Student services to pick up your meal subsidy card.
When travelling by long-distance buses you need to have Matkahuolto’s own student card. In order to get this student card you need to have Matkahuolto’s Student card certificate filled in and stamped by Student and Academic Services. When you have done this, you need to bring this form and a passport photo of you to the Travel Centre and purchase Matkahuolto’s own student card. This costs 10 €. You can get the card instantly.
