Jyväskylä Pride Week is here—check out the program!

Jyväskylä Pride Week will be held September 7–13 and is organized by Jyväskylän SETA ry, an advocacy and recreational organization for people belonging to sexual and gender minorities in Jyväskylä and the surrounding area. This year’s Pride Week theme is “Sports Peace for All,” which aims to highlight opportunities for LGBTQ+ people to participate and be themselves at various sports venues.

As part of the Pride Week program, JYY and the University of Jyväskylä are organizing the following events:

Queer Speed Friending by JYY – Tue, Sept. 8, 5:00–9:00 p.m.

Come meet new people at JYY’s Queer Speed Friending on Tuesday, September 8, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Ilokivi Venue!

Speed Friending is organized like a game of bingo, so it’s okay if you can’t make it right at the start of the event. Speed friending is bilingual (Finnish and English), and you can decide for yourself which language you’d like to use to meet new people. JYY will provide coffee, tea, and juice for participants!

The first round begins at 5:15 p.m. Each round lasts 15 minutes. After three rounds, there will be a 15-minute break.

No admission fee and no pre-registration required. Self-service bar. Accessible venue.

The event adheres to JYY’s principles for a safer space. By participating in the event, you agree to follow these principles. An trusted person will also be present at the event; you can recognize them by their gray JYY hoodie or sweatshirt and their trusted person pin.

We’ll also be participating in the Pride Parade and the Park Festival—come join us!

Once again, this year, the university community will have its own block in the Pride Parade, and we welcome all members of our community to join us in marching for equality, equity, and peace in sports. The Pride Parade will assemble on Saturday, September 12, at 11:00 a.m. in Kirkkopuisto and set off at 12:00 p.m. You’ll recognize the university community’s block by the University of Jyväskylä flag and the JYY banner.

As in previous years, you’ll find the joint JYY and University booth at Saturday’s Park Festival in Lounaispuisto, near Grilli21. At the booth, you can jump on the bouncy castle and make your own Pride pin. Don’t forget to grab this year’s JYU <3 JYY pin, too!

The JYU <3 JYY Pride pins have arrived!

Pick up your own JYU <3 JYY Pride pin in the lobby of the Ilokivi Student Union Building, at Lähde, Ruusupuisto, Agora, or Ylistö—near the custodions’ stations. There’s a limited supply, so first come, first served!
