JYY offers its members a wide range of services for different stages of student life, from rental facilities and student housing to advocacy. The aim of our activities and services is to support a smooth and well-functioning everyday life for students.
Supporting your student life
JYY is here to help ensure that you can enjoy the best possible student experience in Jyväskylä. We provide a variety of services tailored to different phases of student life, including essential aspects such as housing. Through our activities, we aim to make your daily life as a student as smooth as possible.
Rental spaces
The Student Union offers a variety of facilities for rent, including meeting rooms, saunas, leisure spaces and party venues. JYY’s facilities can be rented by its members, affiliated organizations and clubs, as well as other organizations operating close to the Student Union. Our rental spaces are managed by our business unit Soihtu.
Housing
Our business unit Soihtu provides high-quality and affordable student housing in three locations: Kortepohja Student Village, Korttelikylä and Vehkakuja. The rent for our apartments includes electricity, internet, laundry access, shared sauna use, a gym, and several study and leisure facilities.
Counseling
JYY supports you in challenging situations during your student life. Are your course grades delayed? Do you have questions regarding student’s income? Get in touch with our specialists. JYY also has trained harassment contact persons who provide support to students who have experienced any forms of harassment.
Student magazine Jylkkäri
The Student Magazine Jylkkäri is a local campus newspaper published by JYY. You can pick up a copy from distribution points around the university and Jyväskylä or subscribe to have it delivered straight to your home. The magazine covers topics related to student life, as well as culture, sports, and politics.
Ilokivi Service Desk
Our Service Desk is located in the Ilokivi Student Union Building, to the right of the main entrance. At the service desk, you can handle matters related to your student card or membership, apply for an academic year sticker or get a key card for your student association room. The customer service of Soihtu is also located at the same place.
Academic year calendar
JYY provides students with a free academic calendar containing useful information about student life every year. The calendars are distributed to freshmen along with their freshman backpacks at the opening fair, and returning students can pick them up at our service desk in the fall.
JYYPOS
JYYPOS is JYY’s Interdisciplinary Sitsfest Book, which includes 74 songs, a sample sits schedule, pro tips for hosting sits and key sits terminology. JYYPOS is bilingual (Finnish and English).
A limited number of printed copies of JYYPOS are available for JYY members at the Ilokivi Services Desk during opening hours. You can redeem your copy by showing the JYYPOS benefit coupon found in the Slice student benefits feed. JYYPOS is also available as a digital version.
