Representative Council Elections 

JYY’s Representative Council elections are held every two years, with the next elections scheduled for autumn 2027. Every member of the Student Union who is registered as present at the university is eligible to vote in these elections.

What Representative Council Elections?

The Representative Council elections are the democratic elections of the Student Union of the University of Jyväskylä, in which 39 members of the Representative Council are elected for a two-year term. The elections are held every other year during October and November. All JYY members are eligible to vote, run for office, and form new candidate lists. The organization of the Representative Council elections is governed by the Student Union’s basic rules and election regulations.

How to register as a candidate?

Any member of the Student Union who is eligible to vote may run for a seat on the Representative Council, provided that their enrollment at the University of Jyväskylä has been recorded in the registry at least one week before the deadline for candidate nominations. Candidates may run either by joining an electoral alliance or as an independent candidate. More detailed instructions and deadlines for candidate nominations will be published closer to the next Representative Council elections.

Voter turnout in the 2025 election was 19.79%.
