JYY is the students’ own advocacy and service organization founded in 1934. All undergraduate students of the University of Jyväskylä are members of JYY — that is, more than 13,000 students!

The Student Union of the University of Jyväskylä, JYY, is the students’ own community, providing you with support and assistance in everyday life and studies through a variety of services ranging from housing to student events and advocacy. Strategy and values
JYY’s activities are guided by the student union’s strategy. The strategy defines the student union’s values and operating principles, from which JYY’s vision is derived. Together, these form the fundamental basis of our operations.
Advocacy work
JYY carries out systematic and goal-oriented advocacy work to improve students’ everyday lives. The targets of this advocacy work include especially the City of Jyväskylä, the university, and the broader local environment of the student union.
History
The history of the Student Union of the University of Jyväskylä, JYY, is closely tied to the history of the university.
Organization and decision-making
The student union operates openly and democratically. Decision-making is handled by the Representative Council and the Board, both composed of students.

JYY’s business operations operate under the name Soihtu, which provides high-quality student housing in Jyväskylä.
