The Student Union supports students in their daily lives and helps with challenges related to studies. JYY advocates for the interests of its members and offers guidance, services, housing solutions and opportunities to get involved in active student associations and leisure activities.
Membership and student card
The student card is the membership card of the Student Union and an official way to verify your student status during your studies. As a student at the University of Jyväskylä, you can use either the digital student card provided by Slice or order a physical student card.
Associations and leisure activities
Associations and leisure activities offer students a wide range of hobbies and opportunities to engage in community activities alongside their studies. Taking part is a great way to meet new people and find your own community in Jyväskylä.
Services
As a student, you have access to a broad range of services that are designed to support your daily student life. JYY’s services include rental spaces, advisory services at JYY’s service point, the student magazine Jylkkäri, and housing solutions provided by Soihtu.

Students’ rights and responsibilities
The university community is guided by shared rules that are based on Finnish legislation and the university’s regulations and degree rules. If you have questions related to students’ rights and responsibilities, you can contact JYY’s specialist in academic affairs.
Harassment contact persons
The Student Union has three harassment contact persons whom you can approach if you encounter harassment at the university or at student events. They offer support in dealing with harassment and help you resolve the situation.
