Subject association Sputnik ry
Russian Language and Culture
Sputnik ry is the subject association for students of Russian language and culture at the University of Jyväskylä. It is a close-knit student community that also actively participates in the activities of the umbrella organization Lingviestit ry. Information and Software Engineering & Technology Management
Algo ry is a guild founded in 2022 for students of information and software engineering and technology management at the University of Jyväskylä. It was established on the initiative of new engineering students and is currently building a strong foundation. Fokus ry
Social Sciences
Fokus ry is the subject association of social sciences at the University of Jyväskylä, whose members include students of social policy, sociology, and social work, as well as students who have started in the new degree programme in social sciences and philosophy. There are over 400 “fokuslaiset” at the university, whose interests the association promotes in matters related to education and the development of working-life skills as well as leisure and wellbeing. Lingviestit ry is the umbrella organization of the language and communication subject associations at the University of Jyväskylä. Lingviestit currently has eleven member associations: Astérix, Lanka, Lööppi, Magna Carta, Parku, Sane, Sputnik, Sturm und Drang, Svenska Klubben, Taberna Latina and Viito! Lingviestit supervises the interests of both language and communication students at the university, takes positions when necessary on decisions concerning students, and financially supports the activities of its member associations. Lööppi ry is the subject association of journalism students at the University of Jyväskylä. The subject of journalism is located in the Department of Language and Communication Studies. Ethnology, Anthropology and Cultural Policy
Nefa-Jyväskylä ry is the subject association of ethnology, anthropology and cultural policy at the University of Jyväskylä. The association was founded on 29 May 1973. Nefa-Jyväskylä is one of the first ethnology subject associations in Finland. The name of the degree programme has changed many times over the years, and now the newest name, after the addition of cultural policy, is KUMU (Cultures and Communities in a Changing World). Today, students of ethnology and anthropology, as well as cultural policy, study everyday culture and its change.

Tiltti ry
Statistics
Tiltti is the subject association of statistics students in Jyväskylä: Tiltti was founded in spring 1981 and continues after already 36 years! Our community is small but all the more close-knit, and among our members there are not only statisticians but also for example education scientists, psychologists, and economists. At the association’s space “Aquarium” you can almost always find Tiltti members keeping company, studying, or resting. In the space, you can also make yourself coffee or play your favorite retro games on Tiltti’s Mainframe. Old exams and course books are also freely available at the Aquarium. Tiltti organizes several joint events for its members during the academic year. The academic year often starts with the “Evening of the New,” where new students can get to know the old ones. Traditional events include Christmas parties, hat parties, and a May Day picnic. We also organize excursions to another city where you can get to know local statisticians and companies.

Tosine ry
History
In the 1850s, Wolmar Schildt-Kilpinen defined the Finnish neologism “tosine” to mean history, and although the word did not become established in use, it found its way as the name of the University of Jyväskylä’s history subject association when Tosine was founded in 1959. Our subject association is one of the oldest at the University of Jyväskylä.

Jyväskylä Student Theatre JYT
Jyväskylä Student Theatre is a bold and ambitious amateur theatre founded in 1960. JYT is based on the University of Jyväskylä campus in the student union building Ilokivi. A good sense of community is important to JYT members. JYT recruits new members through entrance auditions. The open and adaptable theatre always reflects its members.

Club activities
JYY offers its members low-threshold club activities aimed at strengthening students’ sense of community and bringing together like-minded people across faculty boundaries. JYY’s clubs are student-led hobby activities, and all JYY members are welcome to participate.
Movie club Projektio
The purpose of the movie club Projektio is to organize monthly film screenings at Ilokivi Venue. In addition, we participate in producing and organizing JYY’s film marathons and movie “appro” events (Kauhuapprot and Animeiga-appro). Our goal is to act as a low-threshold, community-oriented group and to watch movies together! All JYY members are welcome to join.
You can suggest movies to watch in the Telegram group, and if they are included in JYY’s film license, they will be added to the screening list. The movie club can show films whose production company or distributor is covered by the license. You can read more about the license here.
