JYY’s annual events
JYY’s event programme includes several annual events with long-standing traditions in Jyväskylä’s student culture. Throughout the academic year, students can take part in a diverse range of activities, from formal academic table parties to more casual social gatherings.
Annual celebration
Every spring, JYY gathers to celebrate the anniversary of the founding of public education in Finland with traditional events that unite students from various disciplines. Celebrations include an anniversary sitsfest and an elegant annual gala, which honor the history of the student community.
Minna’s Journey
Minna’s Journey is an interdisciplinary event appro where participants collect stamps in their passes by attending May Day events organized by student organizations. The journey culminates on May 1 at the Harju’s traditional May Day picnic.
Opening Fair
Opening Fair offers an introduction to student life and the university community in Jyväskylä. During this event, students can discover the university’s various activities, student organizations and leisure opportunities, as well as learn about the services that JYY offers.
Horror Appro
Horror Appro brings horror film enthusiasts together at Ilokivi Venue for a chilling cinematic experience. The event features a carefully curated selection of horror films and final screenings of each day showcase horror films selected by the audience.
Sports Appro
Sports Appro is an active and interdisciplinary student event where higher education students in Jyväskylä earn performance points for their appro passes by participating in various sports trials across the city.
Animeigappro
Animeigappro invites participants into the captivating world of anime and film music. The event features a four‑film anime marathon, followed by a memorable film music concert by Puhkupillit and Sinfis at Ilokivi Venue.
Kavi Regional Film Series
The KAVI Regional Film Series is a curated film programme organised in collaboration by the National Audiovisual Institute (KAVI), the Central Finland Film Centre and JYY. The series presents classic films that are screened in their original 35 mm format at Ilokivi Venue.
Amazing Race Jyväskylä
Amazing Race Jyväskylä is a large-scale adventure event that gathers 600 students for an exciting race across the city. Teams navigate through Jyväskylä, solving challenging puzzles, completing tasks, and competing against each other along the way.
Ilokivi Game Night
Ilokivi Game Night is an interdisciplinary event open to everyone who wants to hang out, meet new people and play card, board, and console games. Beginners and anyone else interested in gaming are warmly welcome! Game nights are held 12-14 times a year.
