Well-being Week 2022
The Well-being Week will be held from Monday to Friday: 4.4.-8.4. The World Health Day will also be celebrated during the same week on Thursday, April 7th.
The theme of the week is going to be fatigue and burnout culture, which have been particularly common problems among students recently. The week offers a variety of activities and tips on how to manage your exhaustion and find your own way to break free from everyday life and thus prevent fatigue. All activities of the week are free!
In addition to the program listed below, it is worth following JYY’s social media, as we will share tips related to mental health there during the Well-being Week.

The lecture on the Recovery of the Body and Mind explores the importance of recovery and rest for overall well-being. In addition to the theory part, the lecture aims to find practical solutions that would help us recover and feel good. The lecture is given only in Finnish. The number of participants is not limited and no pre-registration is needed.
Macramé Workshop, from 4.30pm to 8pm, Jyväskylä University Library Lähde: Väite B248
Macramé is an ancient handicraft technique in which patterns and surfaces are formed with different types of knots. The workshop takes over the basic nodes and designs of macramé, which are going to be used to create our own unique decor and utility items using ecological materials. The workshop is suitable for anyone interested in handicrafts. Workshop limited to 15 participants!
Bodycombat, from 6pm to 7pm, Liikunta-building, Rytmiikkasali (RS)
Bodycombat is a fun workout, which is based on martial arts. It combines fun choreo, punching and kicking to the beat of immersive and inspiring music. It is influenced by boxing, taekwondo, karate, capoeira and muy thai. Bodycombat is for anyone who wants to challenge yourself! The number of participants is limited to 30!
Paneldiscussion: Fatigue and Burnout Culture, from 2pm to 3:45pm, Liikunta: L304
The panel discussion will focus on why more and more students are getting exhausted. In addition, there will be a discussion on how burnout culture could be changed in universities, universities of applied sciences and elsewhere. Panelists have different experiences and backgrounds on exhaustion. (In Finnish only)
Panelists: Adeliina Lahti, student; Timi Malinen, student/Finnish Championship triathlete; Karoliina Korhonen, cartoonist (Finnish Nightmares); Antony Smal, student/entrepreneur and Mari Herttalampi, hyvis at the Department of Psychology and university lecturer.
MiMaTa workshop, from 4pm to 6pm, Main Building, visual arts class: C418
MiMaTa technique is an art-based tool for stress management developed by artist Hanna (Karoliina) Korhonen, who is the creator of the well-known cartoon: Finnish Nightmares. The idea in MiMaTa is to create aimless art with hands while listening to lofi-chillhop music. The workshop will be directed by Karoliina Korhonen herself. Only 25 participants.
Movie Night: Inside Out, Tue 5.4. at 6pm, Ilokivi Venue
Tuesday 5.4. from 6 pm, the human mind will be explored in more detail through the animation movie Inside Out (2015). Disney Pixar’s fun and warm movie has become a critical success and has delighted viewers around the world. Welcome to Ilokivi Venue! (The film will be screened in English with Finnish subtitles.)
Painting Workshop, from 4pm to 6pm Main Building, visual arts class C418
Now you have the opportunity to attend a painting workshop and immerse yourself in the world of colors!
In the workshop, you can create a painting based on your own ideas, sketches or photos found on your phone. You can also come to the workshop without any ideas. Only the first 20 registrants get to attend the workshop.
Free Expression Drum Circle, Wed 6.4., from 7pm to 8.30pm, BoomBox
In the Free Expression Drum Circle you get to play intuitive, improvised rhythms and to express yourself with others. Drum Circle is guided by a drummer and a psychotherapist Ville Vainikka. You don’t need your own drum and no previous experience of playing drums is needed. The number of participants in the Free Expression Drum Circle is limited to 10.

Show up and Slow down offers the opportunity to participate in a low-threshold meditation and yoga moment. Meditation goes through different awareness skills and everyday meditation techniques. Meditation is guided by Ismo Puhakka. Meditation focuses on the body, mind and relaxation. You do not need previous experience in meditation or yoga. 20 participants per occasion.
Spring trip to Haukanniemi, Thu 7.4 at 5 pm
A spring trip to Haukanniemi is planned on Thursday 7th of April, where you can enjoy the spring and the awakening of nature after the winter. The hiking is led by Sopulit (Liikunnan Riemu). In addition to hiking, the trip also includes grilling sausages over a campfire right on the shores of Lake Tuomiojärvi. Some snacks are offered on behalf of the organizer, but you can also bring your own snacks. The trip can be attended by 30 people.

The workshop will include light body and mind care. Some of the exercises are as well suited for break workouts in the middle of the study days. Break workouts have shown to improve both recovering and refreshing the body and mind. The workshop begins and ends with a short mindfulness exercise. This workshop is only in Finnish. 25 participants only.
Jyrock Fri 8.4 - Sat 9.4., Ilokivi
Jyrock, the oldest indoor festival in Finland, is held at student union building Ilokivi 8 and 9 April 2022. With its focus on new indie music, Jyrock showcases the most interesting fresh names in finnish alternative music. Music can strengthen your wellbeing in various ways. Let the music flow in your body and enjoy!
